WHAT WILL MY EXPERIENCE BE LIKE?

Every person comes to an Out-patient Mental Health Center with various needs. In order to best assess your needs, you will be assigned a therapist who will begin by taking a "Psychosocial History Intake". This intake purposefully covers a broad amount of topics.

Some topics you will be asked about during this intake are:

  • Your reasons for seeking therapy
  • Your family
  • Schooling
  • Work
  • Mental health history

As part of this process, you will be asked to fill out an intake packet that will include a couple of screening documents. If appropriate, you may be scheduled to see our psychiatrist for a psychiatric/medication evaluation. You also may be contacted to set up counseling sessions. Within a few sessions your therapist will help you establish both short and long term goals for yourself.

WHAT ABOUT MY CONFIDENTIALITY?

All records of sessions are carefully and confidentially maintained by your therapist and psychiatrist. They are never divulged, except through your explicit permission. The only exception to confidentiality is if harm to a child or intention to physical assault is involved.
